As we’ve discussed in other posts, by default, WordPress treats your website as a ‘blog’ and displays your newest published entries on the home page, unless you set a specific page as a static front page.
In a previous tutorial, we also discuss how to create a WordPress blog page to show your latest published content.
Regardless of your choice to make your blog posts on your front page or your blog page, you can set a specific number of posts to show up on these pages (i.e. ‘1’, ’7’, ‘9’ etc.)
Your website will then display your most recently published articles on your blog page up to the maximum number of items you have specified, even if your WordPress site contains more blog posts than the number of items you have set to display …
Being able to set how many entries can display on your WordPress site is useful.
For example, you can display only the latest single entry you have published. This is handy, if, for example, you are promoting a weekly special, a ’book of the month’ type of offer, publish the latest results of your sports team, post an upcoming event, set up a monthly community page for announcements, etc.
Or, you can use this feature to fill an empty space on your blog if your sidebar menu is too long …
Whatever the reason may be, WordPress gives you the flexibility to specify the number of posts that you want to show on your blog page.

How To Specify The Number Of Post Entries To Display On Your WordPress Blog
WordPress allows you to choose how many blog post entries you would like to have showing on the blog page of your site.
The number of blog posts you would like displayed is completely up to you. there is no limit to this number …
Note: Choose a sensible setting that won’t overload your page as the entries load on your site. You can always increase or decrease the amount of posts displayed.
To specify the number of published posts you want displayed on your website’s blog page web site, go to your WP admin menu and select Settings > Reading …
Configure your options in the Reading Settings section as per the screenshot below:
How To Specify The Number Of Posts On The Home Page
If you are using your site as a blog (i.e. the default WordPress option), where the main page displays your most recent post entries, then edit your settings as described below:
- Front page displays: Set this to Your latest posts
- Blog pages show at most: X posts (where ‘X’ is the number of blog post items that you want to display – e.g. ‘1’, ‘3’, ’10’, ’15’ etc.)
- Click on Save Changes when finished…
Editing The Number Of Posts On Your Blog Page
If you are using your WordPress site as a website, where the home page is a fixed page and your latest blog posts show up on a separate blog page, then set your options as described below:
- Front page displays: Set this to A static page, then select Posts page: > your Blog Page from the drop down menu
- Blog pages show at most: X posts X posts (where ‘X’ is the number of posts that you want to display – e.g. ‘1’, ‘3’, ’10’, ’15’ etc.)
- Click on Save Changes when finished …
Now, when visitors land on your site, they will see recently published content displayed either on your home page or blog page, as per the settings you have specified …
