The sheer number of attacks on websites and blogs worldwide is massive, and it’s only going to get worse.
It’s safe to assume that if your website or blog hasn’t been hacked yet, then it’s only a matter of time.
On March 11, 2014, technology sites like Cnet.com reported that over 160,000+ WordPress-powered web sites had been hacked.
Thousands of websites and blogs are hacked every year! Could yours be next?

According to the Cnet report,
“With some old-fashioned trickery, hackers were able to get more than 162,000 legitimate WordPress-powered Web sites to mount a distributed-denial-of-service attack against another Web site.”
(Source: cnet.com/news/ddos-attack-is-launched-from-162000-wordpress-sites)
As reported by security firm Sucuri, hackers had leveraged a flaw to attack unsuspecting WP sites and direct a distributed-denial-of-service attack (DDoS) towards another popular website.
Every web site with a vulnerability can be seen as a potential opportunity to hackers. No web site is completely safe from being attacked. Large, medium and small business sites, personal blogs, government websites … even sites owned by web security and anti-hacking experts can and have been targeted.
If a malicious user can exploit a weakness in the security protocol and gain complete control of your website or blog, the web site can then be employed as part of a larger network of “bots” to target more highly-valued sites.
The harsh reality is that hackers are most likely looking for weaknesses and trying to hack into your website or blog at this very moment. Whether they can hack in successfully or not, will depend on how hard or easy you will make it for hackers or botnets to continue trying until they can discover a way to get in, or are forced to give up and go look for a less protected target.
How Much Information About Your WordPress Site Are You Broadcasting To Hackers?
If you visit Hackertarget.com and run your site through their WordPress security check …

You will see that the test returns various results and details about your website setup …

It should be obvious after using the above tool that if you are able to freely access all of this information, then hackers can too.

Being able to see what version of WordPress you are using, which plugins and themes you have installed on your site, and which files have been uploaded to certain directories are all valuable information to hackers, as this informs them about any exploitable vulnerabilities, especially where site owners haven’t updated their files.
Fortunately, there is a simple way you can stop broadcasting all of this information about your web site and make your site invisible to malicious attackers and botnets.
Blog Defender Security Solution
Product Description
Blog Defender is a package of WordPress security video tutorials, plugins and tools, plus WordPress security documentation in PDF and DOC formats.
Matt Garrett, the creator of the BlogDefender security suit began looking for a way to develop BlogDefender after noticing that a WordPress site he set up for his mother got hacked into. This site was new and had literally no value to offer, yet it still was attacked.
Matt only became aware of this after being contacted by his host and seeing that a significant amount of unusual activity had occurred within his server, as well as the addition of a number of malicious files designed to lure visitors to the site and hijack their financial information.
