How To Create A To-Do List In WordPress

WP Plugin Tutorials - How To Create A To-Do List In WordPressIf you are a busy person trying to run a business or manage a team, time always seems to be in short supply.

There is just so much work to do and things to remember. You have so many deadlines to meet, urgent tasks to complete, meetings to attend, fires to put out, appointments to make, schedules to keep and so on. The stress of trying to get things done on time never stops.

Now … add the extra dimension of promoting and growing your business online and maintaining your website updated with regular content and everything can start to feel unmanageable and overwhelming.

Whether you run a business, website, blog, or manage a team, you need to be able to organize and prioritize your daily tasks, track your progress and daily accomplishments, and, if necessary, assign tasks and responsibilities to members of your team efficiently.

One ”tried and true” tool that can help you save time, reduce stressful workloads, and allow you to gain some control is to use a “to do” list.

The Benefits Of Using To-Do Lists

A “to-do” list helps you monitor your progress as you work towards certain goals. Your to-do list can be minutely detailed and very specific, or act as a reminder of the things that need to be done today, tomorrow, this week, this month, etc.

Here are just some of the benefits of using to do lists:

Create Order

Having a to do list helps you create order, keep things organized and reach goals faster.

Be More Strategic

By creating and organizing your to-do list, you can view the larger picture and formulate a strategic plan for getting tasks done effectively.

Quickly Reorganize And Reschedule

Using to-do lists let you better deal with sudden and unexpected situations. If you find that a meeting gets cancelled or extra time is made available because some part of the project was completed sooner than expected, you can continue working with minimal loss of focus.

Ensures Accountability

With no accountability there’s no commitment to completion, and no motivation to take meaningful action. Lack of accountability can also allow excuses to creep in and take over your work day.

Better Work Delegation

A to-do list helps you assign work to other people better. This is also important when collaborating within a team (see further below).

As you can see, there are many benefits to using a to-do list, both in business and in your personal life. Creating to-do lists, prioritizing tasks and working towards completing the items on your list improves your business efficiency and productivity.

What about adding to do lists to your website?

In this tutorial you are going to learn how to easily add to-do lists to a WordPress website or blog to improve business efficiency and productivity using a customizable, multi-featured to-do list plugin called Cleverness To-Do List.

Plugin Description

This WordPress plugin provides users with a to do list feature.

Features

Note: the features listed below will be discussed in more detail in the tutorial section.

You can set up the plugin to assign private to do lists for individual users, to have all users share your to-do list, or to have a master list with individual item completions.

The shared to do list option has a variety of settings available. You can assign to-do items to specific users (this includes emailing a new to-do item to the user) and optionally to have assigned items be viewable by that user. You can also assign different permission levels to different users based on user roles. There are also settings available to display deadline and progress fields. Category support is included as well as front-end administration.

A new menu item is added to the backend to help you manage your lists and the to-do list can also display on the dashboard widget.

A sidebar widget is available as well as short code to display the to-do list items on your blog. There are two short codes for front-end list administration. Category management is accessed through the back-end.

If you plan to set up a multi-author blog you can use the plugin to create custom to do lists for your post planners if you also install a copy of the developer’s premium plugin, Post Planner.
