As we’ve discussed in previous posts, in a default installation, WordPress treats your site as a ‘blog’ and shows your newest posts on the main page, unless you fix a page as your main page.
In a previously published tutorial, we have also shown you how to create a WordPress blog page to display your latest published entries.
Regardless of your choice to have posts on your front page or your blog page, you can set a specific number of blog post entries to appear on these pages (i.e. ’2’, ’4’, ’15’ etc.)
Your WP site will then display blog post entries on your blog page up to the maximum number of items you have set, even if your website or blog contains more posts than the number set to display …
Being able to set the number of blog post items display on your web site can be very useful.
For example, you can display only the latest single blog post item you have published. This can be handy for example, if you want to promote a different expiring offer each week, a ’book of the month’ type of offer, publish the latest results of your sports team, post upcoming events, set up a monthly office page for updates and announcements, etc.
You can also use this feature to fill an ugly space on your blog if your sidebar menu is too long …
Whatever the reason, WordPress gives you the flexibility to change the number of posts that will display on main blog page.

Specifying The Number Of Blog Post Entries To Display On Your WordPress Blog
WordPress lets you choose how many posts you would like to show on the blog page of your website.
How many entries you want displayed is entirely up to you. there is no limit to this amount …
Note: Pick a sensible setting that won’t overload your page as the content loads on your site. You can always raise or lower the amount of items displayed on your blog page.
To set the number of published posts you want to display on your blog page web site, choose Settings > Reading from the WordPress admin menu …

How To Modify The Number Of Posts Showing On The Front Page
If you are using your site as a blog (i.e. the default WordPress option), where the main page shows your latest blog posts, then edit your settings as described below:
- Front page displays: Set this to Your latest posts
- Blog pages show at most: X posts (where ‘X’ is the number of posts that you want displayed – e.g. ‘1’, ’5’, ’10’, ’15’ etc.)
- Click the ‘Save’ button when done…
How To Edit The Number Of Posts Displayed On The Blog Page
If you are using your site as a website, where the main page shows a fixed page and your latest blog posts display on a separate blog page, then set your options as described below:
- Front page displays: Set this to A static page, then select Posts page: > your Blog Page from the drop down menu
- Blog pages show at most: X posts X posts (where ‘X’ is the number of items you want to show – i.e. ‘1’, ‘3’, ’10’, ’15’ etc.)
- Click on Save Changes when finished …
Now, when visitors come to your website, they will see posts showing either on your main page or blog page, up to the maximum number of posts you have specified …
