As we’ve discussed in previous posts, in a default installation, WordPress treats your site as a ‘blog’ and shows your latest blog posts on the home page, unless you specify a page as a main page.
In a previously published tutorial, we also discussed how to create a blog page to show your latest blog posts.
Regardless of your choice to have your most recently published posts appear on your home page or your blog page, WordPress lets you set a specific number of blog posts to appear on these pages (i.e. ’2’, ’5’, ’10’ etc.)
Your website will then display your newest blog posts on your blog page up to the maximum number of items you have specified, even if your WP website contains more posts than the number of items you have set to display …
Having the ability to specify the number of post items will display on your WordPress site can be very useful.
For example, you can set your blog to display only the latest entry you have published. This is useful, if, for example, you are promoting a different expiring offer each month, a ‘deal of the day’ type of offer, publish the latest results of your sports team, post upcoming events, set up a weekly team page for updates and announcements, etc.
Or, you can use this great feature to fill an empty space on your blog page if your sidebar menu runs too long …
Whatever the reason, WordPress gives you the flexibility to set the number of posts that you want to display on main blog page.
Let’s show you, then, how easy it is to change how many blog posts to display on your site’s blog page.
Setting The Number Of Blog Post Entries Displayed On Your Blog
WordPress allows you to specify how many published blog post entries you would like to have showing on the blog page.
How many posts you would like to display is completely up to you. WordPress doesn’t limit this number …
Note: Select a sensible setting that won’t overload your page as the entries load on your site. You can always raise or lower the amount of posts displayed on your blog page.
To specify how many published posts you want to display on the blog page of your website, choose Settings > Reading from the WordPress navigation menu …
Configure the options in the Reading Settings screen as per the screenshot below:

Editing The Number Of Posts Displayed On Your Blog Page

- Front page displays: Set this to A static page, then select Posts page: > your Blog Page from the drop down menu
- Blog pages show at most: X posts X posts (where ‘X’ is the number of post items that you want to show – i.e. ‘1’, ‘3’, ‘7’, ’15’ etc.)
- Click the Save Changes button when finished …
Now, when visitors come to your website, they will see your most recent published articles displayed either on your front page or blog page, as per the settings you have specified …
