As we’ve discussed in other posts, by default, WordPress treats your website as a ‘blog’ and displays your most recent published content on the home page, unless you set a fixed page as a static main page.

Whether you choose to make your blog posts on your main page or your blog page, With WordPress you can set a specific number of blog post entries to appear on these pages (i.e. ‘1’, ’4’, ’12’ etc.)
Your WP site will then display posts on your blog page up to the maximum number of blog posts you have set, even if your WordPress web site contains more posts than the number of posts set to display …
The ability to specify how many blog post items will display on your blog page can be useful.
For example, you can display only the most recent blog post item that you have published. This is handy for example, if you want to promote a weekly special, a ‘deal of the day’ type of offer, publish the latest results of your sports team, post upcoming events, set up a quarterly team page for announcements, etc.
Or, you can use this great feature to fill an empty space on your blog page if your sidebar menu is too long …
Whatever the reason may be, With WordPress you have the flexibility to change the number of blog posts to show on your blog page.
Let’s show you, then, how easy it is to change how many blog post entries to display on your blog page.
Specifying The Number Of Posts Displayed On Your WordPress Blog
Through its content management system (CMS), WordPress allows you to choose how many blog posts you would like listed on the blog page.
The number of entries you want to display is entirely up to you. WordPress doesn’t limit this number …
Note: Select a sensible setting that won’t slow down your page as the entries load on your site. You can always increase or decrease the amount of posts displayed.
To specify the number of posts you would like to have displaying on your site’s blog page website, go to your WordPress navigation menu and choose Settings > Reading …
Configure your options in the Reading Settings panel as shown in the screenshot below:

If you are using your WordPress site as a blog (i.e. the default installation option), where the front page shows your most recent blog posts, then set your options as described below:
- Front page displays: Set this to Your latest posts
- Blog pages show at most: X posts (where ‘X’ is the number of posts that you want to show – e.g. ‘1’, ’5’, ‘7’, ’15’ etc.)
- Click on Save Changes when done…

If you are using your site as a website, where the front page shows a fixed page and your most recent published blog posts display on a separate blog page, then set your options as described below:
- Front page displays: Set this to A static page, then select Posts page: > your Blog Page from the drop down menu
- Blog pages show at most: X posts X posts (where ‘X’ is the number of entries that you want showing – e.g. ‘1’, ‘3’, ‘7’, ’15’ etc.)
- Click on Save Changes when done …
Now, when visitors land on your website, they will see recently published content displayed either on your home page or blog page, up to the maximum number of posts you have specified …
