As we’ve discussed in other posts, by default, WordPress treats your website as a ‘blog’ and displays your latest blog posts on the home page, unless you set a specific page as a home page.

Regardless of your choice to have your blog posts on your main page or your blog page, With WordPress you can specify the number of published blog post entries to display on these pages (e.g. ’2’, ’4’, ’10’ etc.)
Your site will then display your blog posts on your blog page up to the maximum number of items you have specified, even if your WP web site contains more blog posts than the number you have set to display …
Being able to specify the number of entries display on your web site has a number of uses.
For example, you can display only the latest post item that you have published. This is useful for example, if you want to send your readers to a weekly special, a ‘deal of the day’ type of offer, publish the latest results of your sports team, post an upcoming event, set up a weekly community page for announcements, etc.
Or, you can use this feature to fill an empty space on your blog page if your sidebar menu is too long …
Whatever the reason, With WordPress you have the flexibility to change the number of blog posts to show on your blog page.
In this tutorial, you are going to learn how easy it is to specify how many posts will show up on your site’s blog page.
How To Change The Number Of Blog Posts Displayed On Your Blog
WordPress lets you choose how many blog post entries you would like to have displaying on the blog page of your website.
How many blog posts you want displayed is entirely up to you. there is no limit to this amount …
Note: Select a sensible setting that won’t overload your page as the content loads on your site. You can always increase or decrease the number of items displayed on your blog page.
To specify the number of published blog posts you want to have showing on the blog page web site, click on Settings > Reading from the WP admin menu …
Configure the settings in the Reading Settings panel as shown in the screenshot below:
Specifying The Number Of Posts On The Front Page
If you are using your site as a blog (i.e. the default installation option), where the home page displays your most recent published content, then edit your settings as shown below:
- Front page displays: Set this to Your latest posts
- Blog pages show at most: X posts (where ‘X’ is the number of blog post items you want showing – e.g. ‘1’, ’5’, ‘7’, ’12’ etc.)
- Click on Save Changes when done…
How To Modify The Number Of Posts On The Blog Page
If you are using your site as a website, where the front page shows a fixed page and your newest published content show up on a separate blog page, then edit your settings as described below:
- Front page displays: Set this to A static page, then select Posts page: > your Blog Page from the drop down menu
- Blog pages show at most: X posts X posts (where ‘X’ is the number of items that you want to display – e.g. ‘1’, ‘3’, ‘7’, ’15’ etc.)
- Click on Save Changes when finished …
Now, when visitors land on your website, they will see posts showing either on your main page or blog page, as per the settings you have specified …
