This is part 4 of a 5-part series on how to create an automated traffic generation system for your WordPress site. This tutorial shows you how to set up a number of plugins that will help drive traffic automatically to your WordPress site.
Welcome to Part 4 of our WordPress Website Traffic Blueprint article series, where we explain how to grow your business online automatically using WordPress.
So far, we have covered the following in this series:
In Part 1 of this article series, we described the traffic automation process, and explained why using an expertly configured WordPress site is the key to generating automated web traffic …
(With an expertly configured WordPress blog, all you have to do to automatically attract new web traffic is post web content regularly!)
In Part 2, we discuss the setup phase of this system. We help you understand the best way to get started if you don’t have a website yet, how to set everything up if you already have a website, and what to do if your existing website has been built with WordPress.
(In Part two we show you where to set up WordPress on your domain)
In Part 3, we look at important configuration decisions.
In this step, we configure all the settings that can affect your site’s ability to generate traffic automatically …
(In Part 3 you learn how to configure all the settings (hosting, WordPress and external) that can affect your website’s ability to generate traffic automatically)
In Part Four, we look at ways to automate the traffic-getting process using various plugins.
Why Automate Your Traffic Generation Process?
Depending on who you listen to, you could end up trying to spend an hour every day (or more) posting content on social media.
Many business owners simply lack the time, human resources and budget to engage in the kind of content marketing that many marketing experts recommend. If you are spending hours posting updates on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter in addition to researching and writing content for your website or blog, how can anything else in your business get done?
(Keeping their business running is how most small business owners spend their working hours. Infographic source: NFIB)
Small businesses spend most of their time keeping their businesses up and running. In addition to running a business, there’s also sales and marketing. After all, businesses need to remain competitive and make sales in order to survive.
A study of small businesses done in 2012 by VerticalResponse – an email and social media marketing company, found that:
43% of all small businesses surveyed spent at least 6 hours each week on social media (the other half of businesses surveyed using social media spent even more time – between 6 and 21+ hours per week). This usage of social media was a 66% increase from the previous year, so if the same research was done today, the numbers would probably be even higher.
More than half of all small businesses surveyed spent 1-3 hours or more to create a blog post.
Finding and posting content for social media consumed the most time online.
(Businesses spend more time every year marketing and promoting themselves online. Infographic: VerticalResponse)
As businesses spend more time on online marketing in order to compete and survive, this puts more and more of a squeeze on businesses to focus their time on other equally vital areas …
(Businesses with limited time, resources, and marketing budget and many different business areas to focus on need to plan their marketing strategy very carefully.)
Another important thing to consider is that, in addition to spending time marketing and promoting your business on a number of social websites, you are investing all of your efforts into virtual real estate that you don’t control. You don’t own Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn. These companies often will make decisions that can dramatically affect your business without consulting you. Why invest so much effort and time building content on someone else’s asset? With WordPress, you can control your own real estate and distribute your content automatically to other websites.
Automating systems and process to leverage time and increase productivity is not new. Businesses of all sizes have been doing it since the Industrial Age. In the Information Age, however, the availability of many new marketing channels creates a number of dilemmas for small business owners and business managers, especially for those with limited resources, marketing budget, and time. For example:
Which of these channels should you focus more of your budget, efforts, and time on?
Should you invest so much time and effort building assets on sites that you do not own (e.g. YouTube, LinkedIn, Tumblr, etc.) while ignoring your own website?
Do you create new content for every channel you plan to include in your marketing strategy?
The Benefits Of Automating Your Traffic-Getting Process With WordPress
What we’d like to show you now, is a free, simple, and effective method for automating your traffic-getting process with WordPress.
With this formula, you will be able to:
Save time creating web content and other marketing channels (e.g. social media),
Save money on content creation and unnecessary web marketing channels,
Determine which channels you should invest more budget, efforts, and your time on,
Invest most of your time building your own asset instead of someone else’s and still benefit from other people’s marketing channels.
Many automated web traffic solutions tend to focus on black hat methods, such as manipulating search engine results. This is not what the focus of this article series is about. In fact, we strongly urge you to avoid using black hat software, websites, strategies, and anything that violates the terms of service and policies of sites like Google, Facebook, YouTube, etc..
(Web traffic automation does not require the use of black hat methods!)
What we are focusing here is not to game web services or break their terms of service, but to show you how to be smart with your limited resources and automate your content distribution so you can leverage your time and efforts, and increase your exposure online to websites frequented by your target audience.
An Automated Content Distribution, Traffic And Lead Generation, And Sales & Marketing System
As we’ve just seen in the previous section, most businesses lack the time, human resources and financial means to engage in the kind of content marketing that many experts prescribe. What you want to do, then, is to be strategic and work smart within your limited resources, time, and budget.
So, instead of choosing this time-consuming approach …
(Posting content to services one by one can be extremely time-consuming!)
Why not opt for a smarter, time-saving strategy like this instead …
(Set up an automated content distribution, lead and traffic generation, and sales and marketing system with WordPress)
You can do all of this using inexpensive WordPress plugins. Once these plugins are installed and configured on your site, just direct your visitors to the appropriate sections (e.g. your store, subscription forms, membership area, etc.)
How do you do all of this?
Simple … first, set up your website or blog as described in Part Two. Then, expertly configure your site settings as explained in Part 3. After all this is in place, you can then connect all of the dots using plugins.
The video below shows you how everything works once your WordPress site has been expertly configured …
WordPress Traffic Automation System – Traffic-Getting Plugins
Let’s take a brief look at some examples of traffic-generation plugins that can:
Syndicate content automatically to social media sites and social bookmarking sites
Distribute comments automatically to other blogs
Syndicate content automatically to other online properties via RSS
The WordPress commenting function allows your blog readers to interact with your website, post new comments, reply to existing comments and engage with your content as part of a social community.
You can expand the WordPress native commenting feature with a number of third-party plugins like Disqus, IntenseDebate, LiveFyre, or CommentLuv that integrate your comments with social media, helping to spread and share them around.
For example, with a plugin like CommentLuv (Pro version), you can create more user engagement on your web site. The plugin encourages readers to comment using SEO and social rewards like ability to use keywords in the username, the ability to add twitter names to comments, backlinks, and social enticements for sharing your content. This plugin will visit the site of the comment author while they type their comment and retrieve their most recent blog posts, which they can include with their comment when they click submit.
(CommentLuv can encourage a greater level of commenting and create more user engagement on your website.)

WordPress Traffic System – Traffic Optimization Systems
In addition to having an expertly configured WordPress site, the key to generating successfully on a consistent basis is having a clear business vision, careful digital planning, and excellent systems and process in place.
(Automated traffic is the result of having a clear business vision, sound planning, and excellent systems)
Let’s briefly review the systems that will help you grow and manage this traffic.
These systems include:
Marketing Systems – How you drive traffic to your business.
Technical Systems – How you keep your web presence optimized for receiving new traffic.
Business Systems – How you manage and respond to traffic.
(Use systems to grow, automate, and manage your traffic)
Let’s briefly review how important the above systems are:
Your marketing systems consist of the processes and strategies used to drive new traffic to your website. Your online marketing systems can be tested by asking questions such as:
What channels do you plan to use to generate traffic (e.g. blogging, PPC advertising, video marketing, etc)?
How will you apportion your budget and resources to these channels?
How will you create your content, sales funnels, and marketing campaigns?
How will you track conversions and measure the ROI of your marketing campaigns?
During the setup and configuration phase, you should have installed an analytics program (e.g. Google Analytics). If you’re just starting out, you may want to consider investing in some paid advertising to help generate some actionable data, such as the keyword phrases people are searching online to find your website, which you can use to create content better targeted to your audience.
Your technical systems keep your online presence operating efficiently for receiving traffic. There’s no point sending traffic to your site if your site is constantly down or your pages are taking a very long time to load.
Your systems include handling technical areas like webhosting, site maintenance and support, installing and updating new software (e.g. plugins), customization, integration, troubleshooting, etc.
Your technical systems can be tested by asking questions such as:
Who will look after my webhosting?
Who is looking after my website and keeping my site, plugins, themes, etc. maintained and up-to-date?
Who will fix errors, troubleshoot problems, provide technical support and advice, etc. should any problems occur?
Many potential problems can be minimized if your website planning process and setup and configuration phases have been done correctly. As with all technology, however, you can expect new problems to arise. You will need the right technical systems in place to handle these.
You need good operational systems in place to help you manage new traffic. This includes:
Resources management – human, financial
Handling leads and sales enquiries
If you intend to outsource areas of your digital marketing and technical support, then make sure you have implemented good systems to manage all outsourcing.
WordPress Web Traffic Blueprint – Traffic Optimization Strategies
If your business objectives are clear and your systems and processes are in place, all you need to focus on is developing and optimizing a “traffic loop”.
Let’s go through an example of implementing, optimizing, and further automating a traffic loop. Take a look at the chart below …
(Implement, optimize, and automate a traffic loop)
Increase Reach & Visibility
Step 1 of the process is to get your business exposed to as many traffic generation sites and channels as your time and resources will allow.
Your expertly configured WordPress site allows you to automatically publish your content on sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. The easiest way to increase your reach and visibility online, therefore, is to simply publish more content.
As mentioned earlier, investing in some paid advertising can help generate data, which you can use to create content better targeted to your audience.
Repurpose your content to leverage different media formats.
Continue learning about ways to bring traffic using methods like LinkedIn advertising, PPC advertising, forum signatures, etc.
Tools & Strategies
See earlier sections of this tutorial series for a number of useful tools, plugins, and strategies we’ve already covered to help you reach more potential users.

Accept user generated content, feeds, etc.
Publish and distribute content online in various media formats (e.g. videos, PDF guides, slides, etc.)
Build Authority And Credibility
Getting more content published is a great first step, but to make this more effective, your content needs to be building authority and credibility with visitors.
Publishing better quality content not only helps to establish your credibility, it also improves your chances of getting more views from social sharing and hence more traffic.
Focus on creating content that will add value to your audience and showcase your expertise. This includes content that educates and informs readers, training content, user reviews, adding testimonials, etc.
Consider publishing special reports that you can sell or distribute online (e.g. sell on Amazon.

As your business grows, you may want to consider developing “traffic on tap.” You can achieve this by building a list or starting a community.
With “Traffic On Tap,” all of your traffic will come from an audience of customers or subscribers – people who already like you and trust you. Your influence and reputation can be used to generate new traffic with every blog post you publish, forum post you add, or broadcast you send out.
Encourage commenting and discussions on your site.
Add an autoresponder training course and encourage people to subscribe.
Add a paid, free, or ‘freemium’ membership site, online forum, or social community.
Start or join a Facebook/LinkedIn Group.
Tools, Plugins, & Methods
Many solutions and plugins are available that can help increase your online influence and improve engagement. For example:
By taking advantage of incoming traffic to find out what users want, you should have no problem coming up with ideas for new services, products, and solutions, all of which can provide you with new opportunities for generating new streams of web traffic.
Create an online training program.
Consider publishing a special report that you can sell or distribute online.
