Are you planning to set up an online store?

The WordPress developer community not only makes great e-Commerce plugins available to users, but there are also hundreds of great themes for WordPress that let you easily set up and run your online store.

In this blog post, we’ll show you where to find many beautiful and inexpensive website templates to set up a WP-based online store.

Best WordPress Themes For e-Commerce

When searching for pre-made themes for e-Commerce there are a few things you should keep in mind:

Template Style

As well as finding a versatile theme for your online store, you will want the web template to have a clean layout and be fairly easy to edit and customize, so it can be used for any type of store you have in mind (e.g. clothing accessories, electronics store, selling crafts online, etc).

Full Functionality

In many cases, most of the e-Commerce functionality in your online shop will come from the plugins you select to power your e-Commerce site.

As you will see, however, some themes also have additional options and settings that can enhance your website’s eCommerce capabilities and help you provide a better online shopping experience for your site visitors without requiring additional plugins.

This can include the ability to easily control your store’s theme colors without editing the underlying web code, toggle theme features on and off, adjust your store layout, global banner advertising management, optimizing product names, categories and descriptions for search engines, shortcodes and more.

Easy Cart Setup And Integration

Most professional-quality WP eCommerce themes provide easy cart setup and store checkout integration with various payment processing merchants and solutions, allowing you to accept various forms of payment online (e.g. credit cards, PayPal, Authorize.net, etc.) and start processing orders online sooner.

Responsive Design Layout

A responsive theme enables websites to automatically reconfigure the layout to display smoothly across different monitor sizes and screen resolutions, as well as across different devices (e.g. PCs, iPads, smart phones, etc).

We have written a detailed article about the importance of choosing WP themes with responsive layouts here:

Support

If you plan to sell products or services online, there are many things that can and probably will turn into problems with the online selling process itself. The last thing you want to have to go through when dealing with problems and frustrated or even angry customers is to be using a theme that is giving you and your customers a headache and you can’t get the theme developer to get the support you need.

For this reason, we highly recommend that you carefully consider choosing WP themes that offer support and regular updates when looking for a template for your web store. Often, you have a better chance of getting updates and support from premium theme developers, than by using a free theme.

With these points in mind, let’s turn our attention now to various website templates you can use to set up an online shop that will keep visitors coming back to buy products from your website:
