Step-By-Step Tutorial: How To Easily Add A Staff List Directory In WordPress
In this tutorial, we will install, activate and configure a WordPress plugin called Simple Staff List.
Simple Staff List WordPress Plugin

The Simple Staff List plugin is free and lets you staff.
First, let’s install and activate this plugin.
Log into your WP dashboard and go to Plugins > Add New …

In the Plugins screen, search for “simple staff plugin”. This brings up the Simple Staff Plugin in your search results area.
Click on the Install Now button …

After installing and activating your plugin, you will see that a new entry will appear on your WordPress menu bar called Staff Members …

The Staff Members menu is where you will manage and configure all of the settings and options for this plugin are configured and managed from this menu.
Configuring Simple Staff List
Depending on how many people are in your business and how you want to structure your employee directory, you could begin to add new employee entries at this at this stage, or create different groups (i.e. categories) that you will assign to your members.

Let’s start by configuring your directory categories. In your dashboard menu, choose Staff Members > Groups …

Add a new group by entering the following information:
- Group Name – Type in your group name
 - Slug – Type in the URL-friendly version of your category. Note: make sure that all letters are in lower case and use hyphens instead of spaces.
 - Parent – Use this drop-down menu if you plan to set up nested groups
 - Description – Type in the category description in this field (optional)
 - Click the Add New Group button when finished to create the new directory category …

If you run a business that employs many people, being able to create groups can be very useful. For example, you can create groups for investors, developers, faculties, etc.
Create as many categories and nested groups as you need by adding new Groups and then using the Parent drop-down menu to organize these into a hierarchical structure …

To edit Groups for individual items, hover over a category title and select the Edit link …

The selected group details will open in the Edit Group screen. Select a new parent group from the Parent dropdown menu …

Add as many categories as you need to until you have created your directory structure …

You can add as many nested groups as you like …

After you are done setting up your groups, the next step is to begin adding staff details to your directory.

From your admin menu, select Staff Members > Add New …

This screen provides an easy-to-use interface for adding and editing your staff member profile and includes the following fields:
Name Section (1)
- Name: Enter the employee’s name
 - Permalink: Change each staff members’ slug (you will see this section after your first save).
 
Staff Photo Section (2)
- Photo: Upload a photo here
 
Staff Member Info Section (3)
- Position: Your staff member’s role
 - Email: Enter your employee’s email address
 - Phone Number: Your staff member’s phone number
 - Facebook URL: Type the person’s Facebook address into this field (note: use the full URL, e.g. http://www.facebook.com/username)
 - Twitter URL: Type in your company’s Twitter username into this field (note: only enter the username, not the full twitter URL)
 
Staff Member Bio Section (4)
- Staff Member Bio: Type in a profile description for your employees here. As this uses the default WordPress Text Editor, you can add formatted content into this section.
 
Groups Section (5)
- Groups: Assign your employee to a group (see above to learn how to set up your groups).

Note: If you did not set up categories before starting to add new staff members, you can add a new group by clicking on Groups > + Add New Group …

A field will appear allowing you to create a new group name, with a dropdown menu that lets you assign your new entry to a parent group. Type in the name of your new directory category and click on the Add New Group button …

For example, a useful variation you can add to your page to display a list of employees belonging only to a specific group is the shortcode [simple-staff-list group=”group name”], (e.g.:[simple-staff-list group=”property managers”])
You can also display listings in ascending or descending order by inserting the shortcode [simple-staff-list order=”DESC”] (descending).
