In this tutorial, you will learn how to install, activate and configure a plugin called Simple Staff List.
Simple Staff List – WordPress Plugin

Simple Staff List is free and lets you easily employee.
First, let’s install and activate this plugin.
Log into your WordPress dashboard and go to Plugins > Add New …

In the Plugins area, search for “simple staff plugin”. This brings up the Simple Staff Plugin in your search results area.
Click on Install Now …

After installing and activating the plugin, a new entry will be added to your main WordPress admin menu called Staff Members …

The Staff Members menu is where you will configure and manage all of the options and settings for your plugin are configured and managed from this menu.
Plugin Configuration
Depending on how many people are in your organization and how you want to structure your directory, you can just start to add new staff member details at this at this stage, or create various groups (i.e. categories) that you will assign to your staff.

Let’s start by configuring your groups. In your dashboard menu, select Staff Members > Groups …

Add a new group by entering the following information:
- Group Name – Type in your category name
- Slug – Type in the URL-friendly version of your category name. Note: make sure that all letters are in lower case and use hyphens instead of spaces.
- Parent – Use this section if you plan to set up a directory hierarchy
- Description – Type in the group description in this field
- Click the Add New Group button when done to create the new group name …

If you are a business that employs many people, the ability to assign people to different categories can be very useful. For example, you can create a category for founders, developers, departments, etc.
Create as many categories and nested categories as you need by adding new Groups and then using the Parent drop-down menu to assign these to a hierarchical structure …

To change or reassign Groups for specific entries, hover over a category title and select the Edit link …

Add as many categories as you need to until you have created your directory structure …

Once you have finished setting up your groups, the next step is to start adding staff details to your directory.
Staff Members – Add New
In your admin menu, click on Staff Members > Add New …

This loads the Add New Staff Member settings …

This area provides you with an easy-to-use interface for adding and editing your staff member information and includes the following fields:
Name Section (1)
- Name: Add your employee’s name
- Permalink: Change each employees’ permalink URL (this section appears after saving your details).
Staff Photo Section (2)
- Photo: Add a photo of your staff member
Staff Member Info Section (3)
- Position: Type in the employee’s role into this field
- Email: The employee’s email
- Phone Number: Type the person’s phone number
- Facebook URL: Add the person’s Facebook URL (note: use the full URL, e.g. http://www.facebook.com/username)
- Twitter URL: Type in the employee’s Twitter username (note: only enter the username, not the full twitter URL)
Staff Member Bio Section (4)
- Staff Member Bio: Enter a profile description for your staff members here. This uses the WordPress Text Editor, so you can add formatting to the content entered in this section.

- Groups: Assign your staff member to a specific group (see the previous section to learn how to set up your groups).

A field will appear allowing you to create a new group name, with a dropdown menu that lets you assign your new entry to a parent group. Enter your new category and click on the Add New Group button …

As well as being able to customize your listing templates, the Simple Staff List plugin allows you to display your staff profiles differently using modified shortcodes.

For example, a useful shortcode variation you can decide to use to display only members belonging a specific group is the shortcode [simple-staff-list group=”group name”], (e.g.:[simple-staff-list group=”sales reps”])
Or, you can make your listings display in ascending or descending order by using the shortcode [simple-staff-list order=”DESC”] (descending).
