Simple Staff List is free and lets you staff members.

The first step is to install and activate the Simple Staff List plugin.

Log into the WP administration and navigate to Plugins > Add New

In the Plugins panel, search for “simple staff plugin”. This brings up the Simple Staff Plugin in your search results area.

Click on the Activate Plugin link …

After your plugin has been installed and activated, a new entry will have been added to your WordPress menu called Staff Members

All of the settings for the Simple Staff List plugin are configured and managed in this menu.

Depending on how many people are in your business and how you want to structure your employee directory, you could begin adding new staff entries after installing the plugin, or create several groups (i.e. categories) that you will assign to your staff.

Add new groups by entering the following information:

  1. Group Name – Enter your group name here
  2. Slug – Enter the slug of your group name. Note: make sure that all letters are in lower case and use hyphens instead of spaces.
  3. Parent – Use this section if you plan to set up a directory hierarchy
  4. Description – Type in a category description here
  5. Click the Add New Group button when done to create a new group …

Once you have finished setting up your directory structure, you can begin to add your people to your directory.

This area provides you with an easy-to-use interface for adding your staff member profile and includes the following fields:

Name Section (1)

  • Name: Add the staff member’s name
  • Slug: Here you can modify each employees’ slug (this section appears after your first save).

  • Photo: Upload a photo here

Staff Member Info Section (3)

  • Position: The employee’s position
  • Email: The employee’s email address
  • Phone Number: The staff member’s phone number
  • Facebook URL: Type your company’s Facebook address (note: use the full URL, e.g. http://www.facebook.com/username)
  • Twitter URL: Enter your company’s Twitter username (note: only enter the username, not the full twitter URL)

  • Staff Member Bio: Enter a profile description for your employees here. This uses the WordPress Text Editor, so you can add formatted content in this section.

  • Groups: This section lets you assign the individual to a group (see the previous section of this tutorial to learn how to set up your groups).

A field for creating a group name will display, with a drop-down menu that lets you assign your new entry to a parent group. Type in the name of your new directory category and click on the Add New Group button …

For example, a useful shortcode variation you can decide to use to display only members belonging a specific group is the shortcode [simple-staff-list group=”group name”], (e.g.:[simple-staff-list group=”sales reps”])

Or, you can make your listings display in ascending or descending order by inserting the shortcode [simple-staff-list order=”ASC”] (ascending).
