In this tutorial, you will learn how to install, activate and configure a WordPress plugin called Simple Staff List.
Simple Staff List

Simple Staff List is a free plugin that lets you easily display basic information about your staff members on your site.
The first step is to install and activate the Simple Staff List plugin.
Log into your administration and from the admin menu section, select Plugins > Add New …

In the Plugins screen, search for “simple staff plugin”. This will bring up the Simple Staff Plugin in your search results area.
Click on the Install Now button …

After the plugin has been installed and activated, you will see that a new menu will have been added to the main WP admin menu called Staff Members …

Here is where you will configure and manage all of the options and settings for your plugin are configured and managed in this menu.
Configuring The Simple Staff List Plugin
Depending on how many people are employed in your business and how you want to structure your directory, you could start adding new employee entries after installing the plugin, or create different groups (i.e. categories) that you will assign to your employees.
Staff Members – Groups
To set up your directory categories go to your WP dashboard menu and choose Staff Members > Groups …

Add a new group by entering the following information:
- Group Name – Type in your group category name
- Slug – Type in the slug of your category. Note: make sure that all letters are in lower case and use hyphens instead of spaces.
- Parent – Use this section if you plan to set up a directory hierarchy
- Description – Enter your category description here
- Click Add New Group when finished to create the new directory category …

Create as many categories and nested groups as you need by adding new Groups and then using the Parent drop-down menu to build a directory hierarchy …

From your admin menu, click on Staff Members > Add New …

This page provides you with an easy-to-use interface for adding your staff member profile and includes the following fields:
Name Section (1)
- Name: Enter your staff member’s name
- Slug: Edit your employees’ permalink URL (this section appears after saving your details).
Staff Photo Section (2)
- Photo: Add a photo of your staff member
Staff Member Info Section (3)
- Position: Type the employee’s position
- Email: Type in the staff member’s email
- Phone Number: Your employee’s phone number
- Facebook URL: Type in your company’s Facebook address (note: use the full URL, e.g. http://www.facebook.com/username)
- Twitter URL: Type in your company’s Twitter username into this field (note: only enter the username, not the full twitter URL)
Staff Member Bio Section (4)
- Staff Member Bio: Add a profile description for your staff members here. This uses the WordPress Text Editor, so you can use HTML into this section.
Groups Section (5)
- Groups: This section lets you assign the person to a specific group (see above to learn how to set up groups).

Note: If you did not set up directory groups before adding staff member details, you can create a new group by selecting Groups > + Add New Group …

A field for creating a group name will appear, with a drop-down menu to assign your new entry to a parent group. Enter your new group and click on the Add New Group button …

In addition to allowing you to customize your listing templates, the Simple Staff List plugin lets you display your listings differently using modified shortcodes.
In your WordPress admin menu, click on Staff Members >Usage …

For example, a useful shortcode variation you can select to display only members belonging a specific group is the shortcode [simple-staff-list group=”group name”], (e.g.:[simple-staff-list group=”customer representatives”])
Or, you can display listings in ascending or descending order by inserting the shortcode [simple-staff-list order=”ASC”] (ascending).
